Council Proceedings July 18, 2022

The Hospers City Council met in regular session on Monday, July 18, 2022, 5:30 PM at the Hospers City Hall with Mayor Dykstra presiding. Council members present: Thompson, Otto, Zevenbergen, Kramer, and Vander Wilt. The City Clerk was also present.

Motion by Vander Wilt, seconded Kramer to approve the July 18, 2022 Agenda with addition of OC Sanitation contract review. Carried.

Brad Wielenga, owner of OC Sanitation, present. Discussed contract between the City of Hospers and OC Sanitation rate needing to increase. Motion by Thompson, seconded Vander Wilt to approve renewal of contract with $2.00 rate increase on 3-year contract. Carried.

Tyler Evenhuis, City Maintenance Supervisor, present. Discussed water leaks in town that have been fixed or are going to be fixed. Also presented crack sealing and overlay that could use repair/replacement.

Larry Gloden & Jason Overmohle present. Discussed rate pay for Hospers Fire and Hospers Ambulance calls. Motion by Zevenbergen, seconded Otto to increase pay per call/meeting/rig check to $10. Carried.

Motion by Thompson, seconded Kramer to approve the payment of unpaid bills. Carried.

Motion by Zevenbergen, seconded Thompson to approve Rosa & Leo Rodriguez’s building permit application. Carried.

Discussed the need for handicap parking in front of Hospers Community Building. Motion by Vander Wilt, seconded Zevenbergen to add three handicap spaces in front of the building, work tabled until OSHA compliance requirements are verified.

Discussed the email from the City Attorney regarding next steps City should take regarding a building in town with exterior deterioration. The City Clerk will send a certified letter to the owner requesting their appearance at the next council meeting on August 1, 2022, to have a discussion regarding the building.

Motion by Vander Wilt, seconded Zevenbergen to approve the July 18, 2022 meeting Minutes. Carried.

Motion by Vander Wilt, seconded Kramer to adjourn at 6:28PM. Carried.
