Council Proceedings March 21, 2022

The Hospers City Council met in regular session on Monday, March 21, 2022, at 5:30 PM with Mayor Dykstra presiding. Council members present: Zevenbergen, Otto, Thompson, Kramer and Vander Wilt. City Clerk also present.

Tyler Evenhuis present.

Motion by Vander Wilt, seconded Zevenbergen to approve the March 21, 2022, Agenda with the addition of discussion regarding sidewalks and main street statue. Carried.

Tyler Evenhuis, City Maintenance Supervisor, discussed ice in skimmer issue being resolved.

Motion by Thompson, seconded Kramer to approve the payment of unpaid bills. Carried.

Motion by Thompson, seconded Vander Wilt to approve the February month-end reports. Carried.

Discussion regarding complaint received from Hospers resident. Will move forward with having Sioux County deputy deliver nuisance letter.

Motion by Zevenbergen, seconded Kramer to approve Resolution 2022-03-21 approving the Hazard Mitigation Approval. Roll call vote taken: Zevenbergen aye, Otto aye, Thompson aye, Kramer aye, Vander Wilt aye.

Open forum at 6:00 PM. No oral or written comments submitted.

Discussion regarding nuisance letter needing to be sent to various town residents

Discussion regarding shed needed for tractor and drag setup at the South Side Park Recreation Center.

Discussion to review lifeguard pay rates. Motion by Vander Wilt, seconded Thompson to include $0.75 raise for returning guards and $0.50 sent raise for WSI certified guards. Carried.

Discussion was had regarding candidates for the City Summer Rec Director position. After reviewing candidates, Motion by Thompson, Vander Wilt supported and unanimously carried to hire Breanne Pottebaum.

Discussion was had regarding candidates for the City Cleaning position for the South Side Park shelter house and Summer Rec bathroom facilities. Further discussion will be had between the candidates and the mayor.

Discussion regarding community center events related to liability exposures and contract review. Will have the city’s attorney review the rental agreement contracts. Rental rate for the community building also discussed, will remain the same for the time being.

Discussion regarding statue on main street and possibility to relocate due to decaying.

Discussion regarding city sidewalks.

Motion by Vander Wilt, seconded Zevenbergen to approve the March 21, 2022, meeting Minutes. Carried.

Motion by Vander Wilt, seconded Kramer to adjourn at 6:47 PM. Carried.
