Council Proceedings April 17, 2023

The Hospers City Council met in regular session on Monday, April 17, 2023, 5:30 PM at the Hospers City Hall with Mayor Dykstra presiding. Council members present: Otto, Thompson, Kramer, and Vander Wilt. Council members absent: none. The City Clerk was also present.

Motion by Vander Wilt, seconded Otto to approve the April 17, 2023 Agenda. Carried.

City Maintenance Supervisor, Tyler Evenhuis, present. Discussed overlay work that Fuller & Sons will be doing on 3rd Avenue from Cedar to Fir.

Motion by Kramer, seconded Thompson to approve the payment of unpaid bills. Carried.

Motion by Vander Wilt, seconded Kramer to approve Resolution No. 2023-04-17 regarding the sale of real estate to Fred’s Plumbing and Heating, Inc. Roll call vote taken: Otto abstained, Thompson aye, Kramer aye, Vander Wilt aye. Resolution passed. Public hearing for the sale will be on May 1, 2023 at the 7:00PM Council Meeting.

Open Forum at 5:45 PM. Rebecca Baatz and Chelsea Verdoorn present, discussed the need for a community daycare in Hospers due to the closing of more in-home daycares.

Discussed the office building the City owns at 105 Main Street. The City Clerk will contact a cleaning company to get the building cleaned so it can be available for a business to rent by June 1, 2023.

Discussed road repair being done by the County on Hospers Boulevard.

Discussed the 2023 Hospers Community Vacation Bible School being held on June 5-9 at the MOC-FV Elementary School.

Discussion regarding the 2023 Pool Season. Motion by Kramer, seconded Vander Wilt to hire each guard that applied for the 2023 season at the rates previously approved during the February 20, 2023 Council Meeting. Carried.

Motion by Otto, seconded Vander Wilt to hire Breanne Pottebaum as the Summer Rec Director. Breanne has asked that her pay be waived and put towards the program’s needs instead.

Motion by Vander Wilt, seconded Thompson to approve the April 17, 2023 meeting Minutes. Carried.

Motion by Vander Wilt, seconded Kramer to adjourn at 6:32 PM. Carried.
